my thought is that such a quantity of T-cells and the enhanced target memory would just about kill someone with auto-immune.

we need our immune system to forget some of the things it is attacking.

the problem is that we really don't know if chemiotherapy or immuno-supressive therapies in auto-immune diseases are the best treatments (there are more and more doctors who question it in case of uc). There were also many treatments and medical theories in the past which now seem totally absurd. It's very likely that future generations will find it difficult to believe that we could have been treated that way. Of course, i don't have too much hopes in this miracle protein (sounds too good to be true), but at the same time i find it optimistic that something's going on and at least some totally different and innovative research is being carried on :)

it sounds reasonable for cancer. a lot of research has looked into getting the body to destroy the cancer.

it is just not related, or innovative, concerning UC

They are using New treatments (IVIG) to boost the immune systems in IBD patients who doesn't respond to other treatments with some good success. It's a new way of thinking in treating IBDs.

yes, and this makes sense because uc is so difficult to define and people (with seemingly the same disease) respond to such diverse treatments

I am definitely in the camp of those not at all convinced that UC and CD are autoimmune disorders.

I think some of the confusion is because IBD probably is an autoimmune disease that disrupts the microbiome, which then causes the problems. This can either be the result of some kind of pathogen which the immune system fights and our colons get in the way or from a non pathogen which our immune system fights, causing the microbiome to be messed up. While you can get better by forcing the microbiome back closer to it's orginal condition, I don't believe you will ever be cured until you address the original autoimmune problem. If it is from a pathogen then eliminating the pathogen could theoretically be the cure but, the original problem might not be a pathogen at all. More than likely it may be in some but not others.
