I'm currently in my third flare up since being on azathioprine (the second one since 2015 started), and I'm sick of being sick! I have been taking azathioprine for three years now, but I guess it stopped working!
I have an appointment with my GI next week, but I wanted to get your input! If azathioprine stopped working for you, was the next step usually remicade? Have any naturopath methods worked for anyone??? I am really hesitant to go to remicade because my insurance doesn't cover it.
Other than azathioprine, I take VSL 3 and fish oil!

Is azathioprine the only med you've taken for your UC (other than the meds you listed in your post)?

None of the OTC stuff has worked for me but it has worked for other people. Usually, medically, people go to Remicade. Remicade also didn't work for me... I have a tough to treat case I guess. I would try natural stuff but I haven't seen too much success here. It may work for you. Have you been chehcked for paathogens? Fish oil gives me the craps personally.

Azathioprine didn't work for me and so I just started Remicade. My doc wanted me to try Methotrexate but I refused. Maybe you could look at MTX however it is not very well studied and the studies that exist did not give favourable results for UC.

Jan - Remicade has a program called RemiStart that you may be eligible for. Definitely check it out.

I was on Azathioprine for nearly 5 years before it stopped working (I've read that for most people, 4-5 years is the upper limit for this and 6MP). We added Humira to it, which didn't work (I stopped that after 9 months). Following a remission (still on Azathioprine, though I doubt that was the cause), I flared-up again and we tried MTX. Also didn't work. Tried Remicade. Didn't work (we mostly tried it to bolster our insurance claim for Stelara if it came to that - after Humira failed, we didn't have much hope for Remicade). Spent a year on LDN (and Uceris, off and on). That helped my symptoms somewhat, but my colon still looked terrible when I was scoped. I am now on Entyvio (and Uceris). Feeling much better these days, though not in remission (yet?).

I was on azathoprine less than a year before it stopped working. I then moved onto Simponi, another biologic. It's been working fairly well

Mtx is the abbreviation for Methotrexate, it's a very strong immunosuppressive medication (like 6mp or Imuran). More commonly used with crohn's but occasionally with uc.
