Ulcerative Colitis flare?

Hi,advice needed please! I was diagnosed with UC two years ago and normally take Asacol 400 x 4 daily to maintain remission. Every now and then I had some blood on toilet paper but no major flares. Started to have rather more blood on paper and extra bm about six weeks ago,so doubled Asacol to 4x400 twice daily plus mesalamine enema nightly as per previous instructions from consultant. I feel well,good appetite,no weight loss,no urgency but tonight I again have some bloody mucus on toilet paper! I am Sooo confused,am I flaring or is occasional blood on paper normal for controlled UC? Should true remission mean NO blood etc? Please help,this disease totally baffles me and need to know what to expect in the future😔😔Thankyou x

Blood is never normal but it doesn't necessarily mean you're flaring. there are other possible causes of blood, like fissures or hemorrhoids. Internal hemorrhoids can't be seen or felt so you wouldn't know you had them unless you had an exam from the dr. You would probably know if you had a fissure, they hurt like lemon in a wound every time you use the toilet. On the other hand, I would take the blood seriously and get to the bottom of it. It could be managed with something as simple as suppositories.

How many bms a day? That's often a better indicator of flaring or not...
