Ahhhh I'm nervous.
My last scope was July 2012 and it was HORRIBLE. I remember waking up and my GI doctor told me I needed to make an appointment with the colorectal surgeon. Such a bad day.
My scope is at 10:30 tomorrow and I am hoping for better news than last time. I would seriously cry if he said my colon looked great.
I started my prep (mag citrate) at 8pm Monday night and finished it around noon today because I knew starting a prep at 5 pm (like my instructions said) the night before would be hell since my bowels move slow. I didn't even have my first bowel movement until 4 pm today so I am glad I started it/finished it way ahead of schedule. There's no way I would've been remotely cleaned out by the time I have to leave tomorrow morning before 8 am.
If anyone is interested in a more natural prep- I did 10 Tbsp of Natural Calm Magnesium Citrate mixed with a crap ton of coconut water (9 cups) and Emergen C (3 packets-). Both of those are filled with electrolytes. I've also been drinking coffee and apple juice (a known laxative for me) out the whazoo. My last BM was orange clear (probably from all the Emergen C) so I think I should be good. I've had no pain at all- just a ton of diarrhea- but definitely a lot of nausea. I did my prep in 2 stages. 4 cups from 8 pm-12 am and 9 am - 12 pm.
I will let you guys know how it goes. Keep me in your thoughts!!!
Oh and I plan on writing something funny on my butt cheeks. It will most likely be "Peekaboo."

Good luck on your scope! Glad your prep worked for you.
If you write ANYTHING on your butt cheeks pre-scope....I'm pretty sure you will win some sort of UC hero award, lol.

Thanks, tmp!!!
I had so many ideas:
Bumpy Road Ahead
Handle With Care
Proceed With Caution
Deer Crossing
Be Gentle
I will just have to save those for my next scopes.

Ok. I want to know how you write something on your butt. That's got to take some talent.

Remember the Simpsons episode when Bart wrote "don't tread on me" on his butt before he had to report for his punishment(the Australian govt ruled that he would be booted in the bum by a man wearing a giant boot) heeheehee. Anyway, Lisa, his sister, said "I'm amazed he was able to write so legibally on his own butt" heeheehee.

Write: exit only.
Good luck on the scope, you've been through a lot due to your uc. Time for some good news

LOL, write on your butt hahahaha, that's a good one and those are some good one's you've got, ipoop's is funny too...I'm sure they will get a kick out of your little message you write for them, just wondering what you're going to use to write so it doesn't smear but also will come off easy enough?
Interesting about
your home-made prep, do you tell your GI what you use to prep? I know some GI's are really "anal" about
the preps we use lol, you're lucky that you were able to come up with using things that clean you right out.
Wishing you the very best with tomorrow bananagirl!

Well, I ended up writing "Handle With Care" with a smiley face next to it. My GI, anesthesiologist, and all the nurses said they were impressed at how neatly it was written. I used a mirror and an ostomy market I had from when they wanted to gut me.
Anyway, good news is that I am in CLINICAL REMISSION. I never thought I'd say that. EVER. He said all my meds are working great and to never stop them. oh and my weird prep worked perfectly.
He did find something weird though. Back in 2012 when I started seeing him as a patient, he was never able to get past my sigmoid because of the inflammation. This time, he went all the way to the terminal ileum and said that my small intestine and colon are like one big organ. Apparently, bile (and most likely my IRON from food- hello stupid mystery anemia) is just dumping into my colon before it's digested because my ileocecal valve is
open all the time. He took a picture of it and the
opening from the small intestine to the colon is pretty wide. He said he usually sees this in crohn's patients after they have a stricture fixed.
Anyway, it's definitely weird haha

Darn, I was going to volunteer to help with the writing :).
Glad to hear about
the remission. And interesting about
the valve. Exciting in a way to at least get an answer as to why some of the problems....

LOL, that was a good choice to write bananagirl, I was thinking it when I initially read your post but didn't think to mention it when I responded earlier.
So glad they found you inflammation free in your scope!! I know how you feel...never thought I'd hear that I was in clinical remission either (thank you Humira!!) pretty interesting about
what GI discovered with you small intestine (ileocecal valve) being
open all the time and his reference to CD in regards to that, did he elaborate on that anymore to you? Does he want to send you for any small bowel follow through tests (since the C-scope cannot reach the entire small intestine) just to see if there may have been any evidence of past inflammation somewhere in your small intestines?
So glad things went well for you today and that you've got such a great sense of humor with writing a message on your butt for them hahaha!

yeah, i had never even heard of this valve. he didn't mention doing any other tests thank god. apparently, this is the reason i have chronic anemia without bleeding. i've needed 25 iron/blood infusions and we could not figure out why my iron and hemoglobin was doing down all the time since i didnt see blood in the toilet.
i honestly dont know if this would be fixable with an ileostomy or not but he didn't mention it. he seems content with me just doing iron infusions and taking my UC meds. i was honestly totally high when i talked to him though but he gave my mom a thumbs up. he seemed really happy and then she started crying.

I just joined and want to add that I used to have that ileocecal valve stuck
open too - and a chiropractor massaged it and got it to close. What a relief! He showed me how to do it myself, and I've had to do it now and again, and it has really helped. I'm mentioning it just in case something like that can help you.
Thanks for the homemade colonoscopy prep you shared. I'm allergic to anything petroleum-based, so I can't use any of the commercial laxatives they recommended.
