Question about pain in upper abdomen/rib area

Hi - does anyone else experience general discomfort/pain in the rib/ab area? I have had tenderness ever since getting diagnosed in the area like right below my breasts. For some reason it's never fully gone away. It doesn't impair me from living my normal life but it does prevent me from doing sit ups or the thought of someone like punching me there sounds like death.

I mentioned this to my doctor and he said it sounded more muscular related than UC. My colonoscopy came back pretty good, mild inflammation but overall in great shape from a bad flare.

Just wondering if anyone else has experienced this. I also can't run anymore because it makes me really ill when I do in that same area and feel horrible for 2-3 days after.

Yes yes yes.

That is me. I asked my doctor and he didn't seem concerned he said I could have a spastic gallbladder. But it isn't just one side but your colon is kinda squished in there. So I assume it is uc.

Do you find that you can't sleep on your stomach or left side? i used to be a stomach sleeper and now can't because of this discomfort and for some reason my left side i can't either. my right side and back are fine, it just sucks because i miss sleeping on my stomach terribly

There's a common extra-intestinal manifestation called Peripheral arthritis. Many people with an IBD get this. This is a non-damaging inflammation in the joints and cartilage that mimics the inflammation in the colon. Sometimes it can affect the rib cartilage. I get this quite frequently. It can be pure hell!

Not sure if it's the same area where my (non-UC) husband had a mysterious pain for a long, long time. I posted about it a couple of times. He had a bunch of tests done, nothing was found. I kept thinking it was a muscle strain or tear (possibly his diaphragm since he would have pain when breathing heavy or sneezing, coughing). The doctor didn't think it was that, but couldn't find what it actually was. It seems finally to have gone away, so I think it must have been something muscular.

Yes, I have the same thing, just joined and going through this excruciating pain/ cramping right now. But the distention has been part of my UC symptoms since I got worse. Nightmare. Sometimes I've taken a probiotic, digestive enzymes, some yeast eradication supplements to help.. don't know if any of that would work for you and also ate very light what I felt I tolerated. :(

Yes but I also have stomach ulcers so I have that to consider to, I just sleep on my back since one side has this freaky gallbladder and the other has the other thing. And both have an ulcered colon.

In recent years doctor has palated & says my pain in that area at different times has been: severe esophagitis (esophageal erosions above sphincter), costochondritis (when I tweaked the rib cartilage), and /or small hernia in epigastic area. The first has been more of a painful deep ache. The second is piercing pain especially when trying to sit up or twist and takes a few weeks to subside. The third is more of a dull ache. Took Tylenol for relief.
