6mp likelihood of nausea/vomiting

Hi guys, my doctor wants me to start 6mp (probably as soon as I get over the UTI and kidney stone I was blessed with over Memorial Day weekend). My only question for now is how many of you have experienced nausea/vomiting on 6mp? That's kind of the one side effect that I canNOT tolerate.

The odds of significant nausea from 6mp/aza/imuran is between 1.3%–6% percent (five 6mp studies listed the occurrences of nausea which were: 1.3, 1.3, 3.2, 3.6, and 6.0 percent).

I never had any nausea. Some tips are take it before retiring for the night, it reduces the odds. It is more likely to occur when first starting 6mp, if it is going to happen at all.

Guess I was in the 1.3 - 6%, because I had horrible nausea from 6MP.
Was advised to take it before bed so I could sleep off any nausea.
Pretty sure my dosage was 50mg. It took about 3 days before the nausea showed up.
From the talk I've seen on this forum about 6MP the 1.3-6% statistic sounds about right.
Give it a try because we are all different, and you should know within a few days.

I am on 6MP and the nausea is very slight. I take 50 miligrams in the morning and 50 at night.

I was on imuran and the nausea/dizziness/vomiting proved too much for me. The only thing that helped a tiny bit was taking it in the middle of a meal. Like 10 bites, pill, 10 more bites. It just didn't agree with me though, but like iPoop said the chance is small. Don't get yourself worked up thinking you're gonna get nauseous because then you're kinda making it happen in a way. Just relax and definitely take with food and/or before bed.

My doctor and I are taking about possibly starting 6MP as well to see if it agrees with me better than imuran.

I had nausea at first from Imuran. After about a month or so that went away. I also take it just before going to bed.

I'm on Imuran and I had very bad nausea in the beginning while I was still working my way up to 150 mg. Now I'm down to 100 mg and still have nausea once in a while.

Why can't you tolerate nausea? You know that there are ways to handle it? Ginger helps me a lot and if it doesn't help I take Phenergan or Zofran. Also, dealing with nausea is 1000x better than dealing with bloody stools. You prefer this to nausea?

Andrina, I don't know, I just can't handle it. When I was feeling nauseous before my colonoscopy, I took Zofran and it hardly helped. It's just such a terrible feeling.

Yes, 6mp, and Imuran/Azathioprine are all very similar immunosuppressive medications used to treat uc. The primary difference is how those medications are metabolized within the body. Essentially, Imuran/Azathioprine breaks down into 6mp within your body. There's just an additional step for it. Same side effects, etc.

i've never had any nausea on 6mp. i actually felt great UC wise on it. literally worked overnight for me. went from 12 bms to 6 the next day. i couldnt stay on it because of my liver.

I've been on 6MP for nearly 12 years and never had any nausea. It's been a wonder drug for me, but I'm starting to have elevated liver enzymes so if that persists I may have to go off it and try something else.
