Left sided pain- help!

Fortunately, my pancolitis had dwindled down to proctitis a couple of years ago- for the most part things have been under control. A couple of small flares that we were able to get under control with mesalamine and steroid suppositories, my trusty VSL, and Apriso. I have not had any real non-rectal symptoms since my diagnosis.

For the past few days I have felt a flare simmering- blood, mucus, etc. I upped my suppositories to 1 canasa at night and one steroid one during the day, really watched what I ate, and also increased my Vsl to 2x day. For the most part the symptoms responded well- however, last night I started having some left sided pain in my abdomen. This morning it became sharper, and I also feel kind of swollen and tender. I have left a message with my GI doc's nurse to see if they can fit me in, but I don't recall having this pain before and it's kind of freaking me out. Is this a sign that the UC is spreading back up again? Would steroid or mesalamine retention enemas help? Any advice is welcomed- this sucks.

Thanks, Sherbear- I wish I had enemas. I've never had to use them before. I have left 2 messages now at my doctor's office and am awaiting a callback. I'm really uncomfortable and don't want to spend another night this way.

Thanks, Katmom! I am going in tomorrow. I thought after my awful first flare that I couldn't be surprised by new symptoms- guess that is not the case. I am seeing my doc's PA- we will see! Hope I can get comfortable tonight.

They mentioned maybe setting me up for a CAT scan on my abdomen too- hoping adding a new temporary med into the mix (even if it's dreaded pred). Did I just say that aloud? Ugh!

I saw the dr today and after feeling how swollen and tender I was, they sent me immediately for an emergency CT scan. They couldn't tell if it was my colon or my left ovary that was causing the pain.

The dr just called and apparently, I have some left sided inflammation that is blocking poo from coming out. Good grief. So we are trying laxatives and a steroid enema at night to try to being the swelling down. If things don't clear up after the weekend, we will discuss steroid options on Monday. But the nasty "lemonade" I drank for the CT scan seems to be moving things along...hahaha.

I guess it's official. I'm full of crap.
