Question to those on Remicade

I have a question to the members who are on Remicade. How long have you been on it? I've been on it for 6 months, and my last one is in August, but I wondered what happens after that. This is the last meds I have to use before surgery, and I don't think I would want surgery.

Did Remicade put you in remission? If so, why can't you stay on it? It's usually a long-term med, provided it works.

I just started it a couple of weeks ago
I'm having my third infusion on Friday
The plan for me is to stay on it as long as it works ( hopefully a very very long time)

I've never heard of someone having a "last one" If they are responding. I was on it for a few months and I had no response so I stopped it. If it had worked for me I would still be on it :)

You should stay on in indefinitely unless of course it becomes ineffective. I have talked with people whose doctors took them off it but that was after they've been on it for many years. My mom is on Remicade to treat her RA and she's been on it for 10 years with no intention of going off of it.

Yeah I'm confused. Why is your last one in August? I've never heard of a quick round of remicade like that. If it works you stay on it until it doesn't work anymore.

there are some hospitals in europe that stop remicade after patients are in remissions (i was told this by an IBD fellow when i was hospitalized)

I started on Remi in March, 2006 and have been on it since then. As long as it is working and I have no adverse side effects, there are no plans to stop it.

I have been on it since 2009 with the exception of 4 months while on humira and have no plans to discontinue it. I'm also confused with the wording of your question. Please give us more info when you have a chance. Are you not responding and that is as long as your doc wants to try remicade? Are you responding really well and your doc thinks it's a good idea to stop your meds? Have you tried entyvio? Are you in the US?
