Geesh! This thread is ridiculous! I doubt that the patient was lying. The only reason I know that my belongings are put under my bed was because at my last scope I asked what they did with my stuff. This was my 4th scope that I have ever had. The previous ones I never asked & just assumed they were kept in my little curtained space in the bag I put them in.

Why is it that conservatives always think the worst of people????

ok, that wasn't nice, but it was complete BS that comment was made about liberals.

Joking Mash-like humor is one thing. What these people did was disgusting and there was no humor in it. The patient should have been awarded far more money in my opinion just to teach those ... jerks (not the word I really want to use!) ... a lesson for life. It is NEVER ok to treat people like that. The person you are when no one is looking is really the person you are.

Behavior like those docs exhibited and the rush to judge the victimized patient are a HUGE part of the problems with society today.

In my case I actually gave my clothes to the nurse (or whoever) and saw the person put them under the bed or, if not there, then on a chair in the same room.

There is absolutely no way I would consent to leaving a smartphone in the cubicle where I changed, where anyone could come along and steal it. Yes, I'm cynical: I'm cynical after having seen my mum have various valuable items nicked in a public place by thieving scumbags.

I'm no conversative by the way. Just somebody who doesn't like most people.

I think CC was referring to me. They just assumed that since I used the word liberal and complained about them that I must be a conservative. Common mistake. Happens to me all the time. Whenever I make a remark about the far right I'm also accused of being a liberal. I wonder if that qualifies me for cookies half the time?

You are right, Gary ... I was referring to you. I really don't care what political viewpoint you have and I don't care if you bash conservatives too. The point is you made a disparaging blanket statement about a group of people that isn't true of everyone in that group. There are sooooo many others who do the same thing and it's no wonder the world is a powder keg. Each and every person on this planet is an individual human being who deserves to be treated with humanity. I just don't expect to read this kind of stuff here at a group that is to support people who have a horrible illness.

I know ... it's all Obama's fault ;)

I don't watch either very much but when I have watched them I must say that Fox News is more "fair and balanced" than MSNBC. While Fox news is one sided, MSNBC throws fair and balanced right out the window. Of course different shows on both have different levels of BS. I don't watch PBS. I get a lot of my news on line from a variety of sources. I'm getting used to which sources are pro one way or the other and I either don't read them at all or I look for articles where a liberal media has a story criticizing the liberal side or a conservative media criticizes the conservative side. Sometimes that's a good way to judge the real truth of something.

CC: While I'm no fan of Obama, I'm also not much of a fan of both sides. I'm terrified of the next election. Could very well be Clinton vs. Bush. That's what the country has degenerated to. I don't bring up politics much here but since this was an OT thread I thought I'd throw some in. Some people in this thread have really twisted my words severely and it is really frustrating. Fortunately, I think most people in this thread know that I was not defending these morons in any way, shape, or form and they got what they deserved.

Gary I'm with you on this 1. First amendment comes into play, freedom of speech. In theory I thought I can say whatever I want, to whoever I want. Now they are his doctors so there is some patient/doctor thing there for sure, however 1 point the nurse said grabbed my attention. He said he gets woozy looking at needles but yet he looked when the nurse put it into his arm, to her point, he's an idiot if he did. I get woozy too looking at needles so I look the exact opposite direction and I'm fine. Does seem like an idiot thing to do. At the end of the day, again I find it hard to feel bad for a guy getting $500,000 for being made fun of. I get made fun of every darn day of my life and haven't seen a cent.

I like PBS. I also like Al Jazeera the few times I have seen it. Fox is in no way "fair & balanced". I never watch MSNBC so don't have any opinion of it. Most of the time I just do my own research about things I read online. The internet is still the wild wild west where anyone can say anything and truth is pretty hard to dig out ... but it can be found with a little persistence and an open mind.

I heard about a similar case. In Germany I had my mom with me in the procedure room because I was really uncomfortable. She made sure that I was treated OK. I wish that you could bring a relative in with you during the procedure.

I'm also afraid of something like this happening during a colectomy/J-Pouch surgery.

I'm right there with you, Gary. When I look at all of the current candidates on either side I find it disturbing that this is the best our country has to offer and that one of these people could be our next president.

I'm a healthcare provider and these 2 physicians were completely inappropriate, unprofessional, unethical, etc. Although I still don't quite understand the logic of the patient and his recording device, he deserved a monetary settlement for the events he recorded.

On another note: Each career industry has their own culture and in healthcare, the only way we survive is by humor and laughter and light hearted banter. We see things that should never happen to patients, whether an illness, a trauma or something at the hands of another human. The culture I'm describing doesn't disparage patients and it doesn't jeopardize the care we provide and it doesn't include the words and actions of the 2 physicians in this lawsuit.

Serious question: why did the patient deserve a monetary settlement? Why is the people involved being struck off not punishment enough?

Like Bull said, some people get bullied every day of their lives and get no reward and no recognition. Absolute joke. Just one person in a million striking lucky (and yes he did strike it lucky: $500,000 is a life-changing amount of money).

NCOT -- in my opinion the patient deserved the settlement because his life was in the hands of these people who belittled him and lied to him about his medical condition. If he didn't have that recording he would have sought treatment for a condition he didn't even have. The docs involved are still practicing. One moved to another state. The other still has his practice. I hope they have learned how wrong what they did was.

I am sorry for anyone who gets bullied. I do find it strange that you are not supportive of someone who stands up to his bullies and makes them pay. I hope that all victims of bullies can find a champion to help when bullying happens.

NCOT, the patient lying bothers you, what about those idiot Dr.s that lied about the patient having a hemorrhoid but clarifying he actually didn't, I'd say some lies are worse than others.

Oh and Bull101, no I'm not perfect of course I've said mean things who hasn't, you? Don't even know what that has to do with this thread...I was pointing out how disgusted I am with what the patient went through (imagine how he felt listening to what they were saying about him) I can't imagine how horrible he must have felt and by so called care-givers in this case which made me even more angry and then to read some ridiculous reply from Gary picking apart the patient for lying about how the entire conversation was taped and blah blah blah (as usual) bothered me even more because it was all about what the patient went through which was the biggest disgrace about this whole thing. So of course the focus was taken from the actual point of what that patient went through, and that's what sent me over the edge....

all the political fiasco (if you go back and see) was caused by Gary referring to me as some liberal (I'm Canadian and I'm definitely not a liberal!) but I don't even care about his comments about me, he's often made belittling remarks when ever I've discussed IBDers having IBS coexisting because he thinks the two conditions are linked, the same and whatever else his opinion is.

And DB, so sorry we're not all perfect like you but I'd rather not be if it means tossing snide comment of also belittling others.

What do you mean he would have sought treatment for a condition he didn't even have? I suppose you mean the suspected haemorrhoids. Even if he hadn't had piles, it would hardly have been dangerous to have applied haemorrhoid cream for a few weeks.

So bullies losing their livelihood is not punishment enough to you? The victim needs half a million dollars on top of that as well? I'd like all bullying to stop; one victim out of a million becoming rich out of it isn't going to help the other 999,999 victims.

I must be honest: I'm too lazy to check out the audio for myself, but according to one of Gary's posts they suspected the patient might have haemorrhoids, but it was too dark to see. If that's true, that's different to just plain making something up. Still wrong, but not quite as wrong.

It's a moot point anyway, because nowhere have I argued that these people should be allowed to go unpunished for what they did.

Thank you, sincerely. I'm not sure how to reply without being utterly depressing, but I've ended up in a position where I'm completely on my own, and I just feel like life has beaten me. I can't win.

You're the one having troubles with comprehension, I don't put words in Gary's mouth or anyone else's, I'm simply reiterating what he initially says, I don't change or manipulate his words. You constantly accuse me of this (like in the IBS vs IBD discussions I had with him a while back, gary likes to debate, I don't, you offer nothing when you pipe in, your purpose is to just reply how I put words in gary's mouth, which isn't the case so maybe give yourself a check before you go accusing others of things.

Let's watch the politics folks, this is health forum and it can get divisive.

I'm technically an independent, registered as such, and live in a swing-state (so we get to meet all of the candidates). But most self-described-independents have a clear slant one way or another (I'm pretty liberal). In the end it doesn't make a whole lot of difference, we call ourselves what we want to. Politicians by definition are dishonest/manipulative, regardless of their affiliation and we just lead ourselves to believe our candidates isn't as bad. And us liberals have lots of kinds of cookies, most are probably gluten-free, organic, and cost us twice as much... :-)

I don't want anything to do with being a liberal if it means eating gluten free cookies! Admittedly, I slant to the right as being an independent but I actually voted for Obama last election. I think the reason we have such a divided government is that no one in the middle, including me, wants the Democrats or the Republicans to be in control of all three branches of government. What a disaster that would be.
