Prednisone can most certainly make your depression worse, it should ease up once you're off of it (messes with moods, makes one anxious, etc.). Prednisone weight gain can be part temporary (water retention) and the rest will come off in subsequent months when you return to your normal activity and eating habits. So, you're talking about
two symptoms that bother you that can directly be associated with a medication you're taking and should ease up as you discontinue it.
Depression and an anxiety are two symptoms of your uc that are seldom treated by doctors. Being chronically ill, the uncertainty it brings and isolation is very difficult, some handle it themselves, others seek counseling, psychologists and/or anti-depressants. It may help to attend any chron's or colitis groups who meet in your area, where you can meet others who experience the same struggles and share experiences/tips etc. Certainly vent on healingwell, ask questions about
anything uc, as we get it, and experience the same issues.
Some find it helpful to reinvest in hobbies to get their mind off uc. You're in remission now, so you should be unrestrained from being social and active.
If you find the solution to uc depression and anxiety, be sure to post and let us know, as many here experience it
