When I got my first flare up, I was between jobs. I did not have insurance. I had never heard of Ulcerative Colitis or Chron's. I thought I had hemorrhoids. By the time I got a job and the insurance took effect, I was bedridden and severely iron and oxygen anemic. My older daughter had to help me find a GI.
I was in bad shape. My GI recommended a blood transfusion. I had gone to the hospital a couple days earlier. They couldn't admit me without a diagnosis unless I got a blood transfusion. I declined because my mom almost died from Hepatitis C when she got a blood transfusion from loosing too much blood when I was born. Yes, I know, blood is now screened for Hepatitis C, but no one knows when the next new blood-transferred disease will come along.
Anyway, the first three days I was put on mesalamines because he needed a diagnosis before he could put me on Pred. When the diagnosis came back as UC, he added the Pred. After three months, the bleeding had stopped with the meds. But then I needed to start the taper. Every time I tried tapering off Pred, the bleeding would come back. I knew I had to do something because the next step was to try an immunosuppressant or biological.
At the time, I hadn't been eating right and I didn't know about
FT, probiotics, or anti-inflammatory herbs. Vitamins and minerals would take too long. Listening to guided meditations wasn't doing enough. So I went on the Internet. I read about
how a doctor in Austria was doing FT and having success. So I called my older daughter and had her come over with my granddaughter for five days (that's how long she could come for at that time). I was on a tapered dosage and bleeding profusely. I was able to get three treatments, one each day for the 2nd to 4th day. On the fifth day, the bleeding had stopped completely. I then tapered off Pred as fast as I could because I had been on it way longer than I should have been. I tapered so fast that my joints got inflamed and would go crackity crack when I walked down the stairs. Yet, the bleeding didn't come back. Gradually my joints stopped inflaming. They have never gotten inflamed since.
It's more likely that FT pills will be sold under functional medicine.
