Hi All,
My new (yet another new provider since my move...) has suggested I start a tumeric supplement. I didn't think to ask at my last appointment. How much is everyone on?
I'm looking to purchase through emerson ecologics if that helps.
While I'm at it...any good multivitamins you would suggest!?
Thanks a bunch! ;)

Many say you need 2-3g a day for theraputic effect. I only take 800-1200mg currently. More than that seemed to make things worse, but it's always hard to tell what's causing things to be worse.

I take (1) 500 mg Turmeric capsule with pepper daily. Tried taking more (as others here do) and got IBS symptoms with more BM's. Also stopped taking that one capsule and had less formed BM's so started taking again. Turmeric is a keeper for me but not a large dose.

Curcumin, which has powerful antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties, is the most active constituent of turmeric. Thus, it's better to take curcumin. Buy one that has superior absorption and take it with a bit of black pepper to further enhance it's absorption.

I am addicted to Temple Tumeric drinks (you can get them at Whole Foods). They are kind of pricey but I find they help settle my stomach after a meal. Not sure why? There's a pineapple one that is really yummy.
subduedjoy - thanks for the black pepper trick. I never knew that.

I take 3 g of curcumin per day as my maintenance drug. My signature has information on the brand and the dose I use while flaring.
I'm one of those who believes that you have to take a lot to see real effects. But start slow, like 500 mg in a day, to make sure it doesn't disagree with you. You can work your way up slowly from there.
Definitely get the kind of capsules that include black pepper and try to take your curcumin with a bit of fat because that helps with
absorption. It doesn't have to be a lot of fat. I take mine with dinner which usually includes meat, salad dressing, or butter. A teaspoon of olive oil or coconut oil is sometimes used.
