Hi everyone, I've been trying to get off the steroid enemas for a while now and recently thought I'd try going gluten free for a week to see if it would help ( am already following a dairy free / low sugar diet) . but it did the opposite, led to c and then to flare up symptoms ( slight bleeding, fever, c and sometimes d)..I had a flex sig last Thursday and the doc said that the rectum was 80% healed... he took a bunch of biopsies and today I got the result --
Chronic active proctitis with ulceration and granulation tissue (severe activity).
I remember when I was diagnosed in 2013 that the path report came back with mild chronic activity..any idea what determines whether activity is mild, moderate or severe? Does it just mean that it's become more stubborn to treat.. if so, that would make sense since mesalamine doesn't seem to be very effective. I have a follow up appointment next week to figure out next steps.. I can't be on steroids forever even though they work really well and fast..the doc mentioned imuran or 6-mp as my next med even though the inflammation is still in the rectum only...any thoughts? I'm nervous about going with the next level med but not sure what else I could try to avoid it...
