Good find. Another piece of the puzzle, been saying for years excess mucinase/protease is part of the problem.

I took protease enzymes once thinking they would make be better. I got worse instead.

So if I am to understand this research correctly, increasing the mucous in your colon would make symptoms worse? I am asking because I sometimes take slippery elm and it definitely makes more mucous come out with the stools.

This also makes me wonder how much of diet could starve out the bacteria that are causing problems. There has to be a connection between eating certain foods that produce more mucous.

This is pretty interesting but I think it is oversimplification to think you can just change diet to fix the problem. There are a lot of very complex issues going on.

yes I agree. I will never say diet can "fix" the problem (for me) because I already tried every diet possible for 3 years and only got short periods of remission. What I am wondering is if mucous reducing foods can help (not fix) the problem.

For example, bromelein is supposed to reduce mucous. Just wondering if there might be a connection between cutting off a food source for bad bacteria and reducing inflammation.

My take is that not only do we have to worry about dysbiosis but also what the bugs are dong
metabolically. See my post a couple pages back on the best microbiome study I have ever found.
Anyhow believe the dysbiosis except for antibiotics mostly caused by immune stress on the bacteria,
they modify themselves metabolically, so they can combat the oxidative stress, that means some die off
some enrich, they change their diets, change what they make, this then effects the other cross feeders.
Plus all the D if you have it changes the normal spatial distribution of bacteria in the stool/bioreactor, then if you bleed you are supplying iron to the iron feeders which can then over populate.
Then we have everything that is going on at the mucosal surface and in the mucosa.
It is just a mess.
