I literally haven't slept right in over a month.. Maybe a couple hours a night and more recent It's been worse with zero sleep the past two nights. I wake up for bathroom runs, or just randomly wake up without needing a BR. I'm assuming I can't heal properly without good sleep. What are good suggestions to help with this? My mother has zzz in the cabinet too btw. Thank you

Most OTC sleep aids have benadryl/diphenhydramine as an ingredient. Melatonin is a non-pharm option. You could start with either of those. I personally have used benadryl in the past during a flare/prednisone time with success. I've never used products like zzz nor have I used melatonin.

I use Nytol, if you have lactose intolerance beware that it has lactose in it (as do many things you'd never suspect would so reading labels is essential) thing is I only use it when I'm out of town with hubby and we sleep together, he's a very loud snorer and I'm a pretty light sleeper (at home we sleep in separate rooms because of this) even though I smoke mj before bed and it knocks me out all night (at home) hubby's snoring is so bad that I have to take Nytol as well as smoke...so that's only 10 nights that I take it in a row and I don't know if you're really suppose to take it indefinitely as I think you'll become dependent on it if you do and it will stop working and since I think pretty much all sleep aids do this even RX ones so for a bit here and there is fine but long term not likely.

I take ambien if I am on prednisone. Otherwise, if i am flaring, i can usually sleep. If i wake up to go to the bathroom, that's preferable to pooing the bed.

I wake up everyday at 5.00am, which is a pain, but I just read my Kindle, so I can't really complain, but if you are having to get up for work then I would imagine that this is going to be very disruptive for you. Eyemasks can actually really help, but you need a good one, which you can find online, but there is a herb called Valerian which is a sedative herb, and has been used for centuries, maybe you could try and find this herb?
I wonder if having UC somehow disrupts ones sleep patterns, as I never used to consistently wake up at 5am like I do now, so I do sympathize.

Ativan or similar will help because aside for the prednisone keeping you awake it most probably gives anxiety and that keeps you up as well
The drowsiness side effect of the Ativan can help you sleep too
Good luck

My doctor just had me try Ativan for the first time to counteract 8 days of IV steroids and now 40mg a day steroids. I don't sleep on steroids. Ativan is super strong. The first time you take it....it will be lights out. Now I am finding on the 3rd day that it is becoming less and less effective.
He also had me try Trazadone(spelling?). I found that did nothing and I swear it made my bleeding worse.
