Very mild proctitis? Or ibs

So lately I've been having more bowl movements or I guess urges, but if I go during that urge I'll actually have a bm. This happens 3 times a day. It doesn't really hurt my stomach except for some pelvic cramping but I feel it in my rectum. I had proctitis two years ago and two rounds of c diff in between. I was also on hydrocortisone off and on for the last two years. I know that's bad but that's what my doctor reccomended. (Not sure he actually read up on it though since I'm seeing most doctors won't keep you on it this long). But anyway last time I had proctitis I had blood and mucus and mushy stools and was pooping more. Now I have the mushy stools and am pooping more some days along with the burning butt feeling but I also have NO blood. And only some mucus normally after I'm constipated. My gastros just going to tell me to start the hydrocortisone again until I feel better. I also have an appointment with another gastro but not until October. So I need some advice in the meantime. I'm praying I don't get any worse. So I'm guessing this can either be a) that frickin proctitis again b) post infectious ibs or c) hemmoroids. Please advice I really don't want to damage my colon anymore...

Did you have UC Proctitus or just Proctitus? Were you actually ever diagnosed with IBS? You never took any meds other than oral steroids for your Proctitus? What country are you in? Sounds like your Proctitus is coming back to me.

Just because the symptoms go away doesn't mean the actual proctitis goes away. You may not have been completely healed and then you quit the meds and the symptoms come back. Unless you have had a scope with biopsies telling you that all is good, you should always be taking rectal meds, just not the steriod ones long term. And, if you doctor never suggests a different one it may be time to ask for one or find a new GI. Mesalamine enemas or suppositories are what you need to always be taking. UC proctitis is a life long disease even while in remission.

You should be using mesalamine enemas nightly not hydrocortisone and during the day using Canasa suppositories. You also need a better GI if he keeps you on steroids not mesalamine enemas. Cut him loose.

Get an RX from your current GI for mesalamine enemas and Canasa, don't wait for October. Push for them, there is no reason at all you should not be using them.

Hi Poophappens,

Has your colon ever been affected? You can definitely have proctitis without bleeding every time or all the time (I did)...flares can vary each time and therefore GI's will RX rectal meds depending on the patients needs (I've been on Cortifoam for as long as a year before tapering off of it)...I would push to get in sooner with your GI, let them know to put you on their cancellation list cuz anything can happen between now and October and if it is proctitis you want to treat it ASAP.

I was diagnosed with just proctitis I think. My gi did biopsies that were negative for crohns and I think UC but he couldn't tell if the proctitis was ulcerative or just damage from c diff. And I was on hudrocortsone suppositories for the past two years.

I'm trying to push my appointment but they're so booked out here. And yes I am in the U.S.

The thing is I guess my symptoms actually mimic ibs too. So I don't want to use my suppository if I don't need to. I know, I really need a colonoscopy or sidmoidoscomy to confirm. I hope it's not ulcerative proctitis or any IBD.
Or could this be damage from the suppositories? I was diagnosed with IBS before I was diagnosed with c diff. However that was when I actually had my c diff infection, I just didn't know

Also would using the other suppositories if I can get them from my new GI do any harm if I don't end up having proctitis? I guess my symptoms could also be from hemmoroids too since I have been constipated off and on the past month.

I just passed a ton of mucus. I'm also very constipated when last week I was going multiple times a day. I have anxiety and my symptoms also mimic Ibs. But can hemmoroids also cause passage of mucus?i also just started my hydrocortisone again since I don't know what else to do.

Hydrocortisone enemas are a steroid. When used on sn as needed basis they're fine. I wouldn't use them as a maintenance medication, indefinitely though. As steroids are a rescue medication, meant only to tackle flares.

Hi everyone. So I went to the GI finally and he thinks it's not UC because I have no blood or diarrhea. He gave me hyoscyamine .375 twice a day for the colon spasms. It helped the first week but I still get stomach pain and lots of gas. He also had be use canasa and citrucel but I stopped both of those since I thought they were causing the gas and pain. While it wasn't as bad as before the meds it was still very much there. Anyway I stopped those and still have some gas and stomach pain. The side effects of hyoscyamine are also getting to me. I have dry mouth, dry eyes, can't focus and it's ruining my appetite. I've also lost weight due to this and fear of having pain at school. I asked my primary doctor to put me on an antidepressant and she recommended elavil/amitriptyline. I know it's used for ibs in low doses but I'm terrified of these causing me a panic attack or making my symptoms worse. She said it could be bad mixing hyoscyamine and the antidpressant for ibs d. I currently don't have the D but if I get it I'm going to freak out. It's hard going to classes with the pain alone. I'm also worried about being on it for the rest of my life due to the fact that some people developed worse ibs after going off of it. I'm also wondering how it will work with my hyoscyamine and if I'll need to be on that for the rest of my life as well since we have nooooo idea what caused my colon spasms to begin with. I also have anxiety and depression due to all this crap and school and graduating.

My BMʻs since starting the hyoscyamine/ citrucel/ canasa have been small. I always feel like iʻll have a big BM in my rectum but then it comes out small. Today I felt like i got everything else and went multiple times but i felt like that was just all the build up from having such small BMʻs lately. I think I might have felt a hemorrhoid too. My rectum currently feels swollen. I also feel sick. Somewhat nauseous and out of it. Not sure if thatʻs just a side effect of the hyoscyamine though. Are the side effects supposed to get worse when I was fine for the first few days of taking it? I have also completely lost my appetite.

Please help if you have any insight! I'm also thinking of going on digestive enzymes since with this medicine I feel so full after a few bites. I'm hoping they will also help the gas. And allow me to eat normally again. Oh I'm also currently on florastor and I'll be on that until I'm dead just to make sure I have a good chance of not getting c diff again too.

And for those of you who say I need a colonoscopy to completely rule out UC, I'll be getting one... In December. -__- I'm only 21 and it's already my third one.
