I’m an older lady and have been dealing with ulcerative colitis for about
20 years. I to remember the days that I was scared when I saw blood in my stool. I at first did not want to admit it to anyone out of embarrassment. I tried to act like it was hemorrhoids. Soon I couldn’t leave the house.
I just didn’t realize that I was in over my head in life with two teenager daughters and a husband with PTSD for the Vietnam War. I also had a full time job. My life was chaos. I worried about
everything and it finally caught up with me.
It took me a long time to realize that I was letting stress rule my life. I wasn’t taking care of myself at all.
I did find a Gastroenterologist Dr. where we live and went through the test. They are trying to make the wonderful gal of liquid better tasting now it comes in orange & grape. I guess the colon testing with the scope is very helpful for the Dr. just to see how far along you are. I would of done anything just to feel normal again. He told me that I had ulcerative colitis and would have to deal with flare ups for the rest of my life. He prescribe prednisone 30 mg. and take 3 a day. This did help heal me but it was about
3 months before I was back to normal. I had no intention of ever getting this again. See the thing about
this no one can tell you how to eat. I was at lost about
almost everything so I just continued to live the same life as all ways. It worked for about
4 years and I got another flare up. Surprise, I was not going to let this get me down. I started eating really well and tried to ignore the fact that it was just getting worse. So back to the Dr. I went another scope and more pills. This has happen to me about
4 time in my last 20 yrs.
There is light at the end of this. My husband and I have done a lot of research and we are with a group right now that has answers about
our immune systems. We take probotics, a high dose of vitamin C, Ginseng, and we eat much better now.
I believe that working out while you are well keeps your stress down. So we try to go to the gym 3 to 4 time a week.
