I was on 60 mg in April, then the prednisone was lowered every few weeks. I got down to 5mg but the headaches came back. So now I am back up to 40 mg with a new doctor. I think the dosage was lowered too quickly. From 60 to 40, then 40 to 20, 20 to 10, then 10 to 5 in 3 months. Maybe my new doctor will help. I never knew or heard of temporal arteritis until now.

a 3 month taper is kind of slow. smaller steps may help.

unless you are on pred for an extended period, very drawn out tapers are generally not needed

I think it's very common for pred to cause headaches and especially during tapering.

I would suggest you call your doctor and ask for reassurance regarding that, especially the specific symptoms of TA. If you have an Ophthalmologist, or an eye specialist who also focusses on those types of issues, then you should see one since you're very concerned. If it's not, at least you got checked out.
