interesting. thanks for posting. Now that I am almost (hopefully!) out of a flare, I have been meaning to get back to some supplements.
I already do probiotics and have tried L-carnitine but I have never tried butyrate. Any side effects to be aware of?
That is a weird one. I had a bottle of butyrate and it warned not to take if you have UC.
Strange.
I instead take Psyllium seed powder because it converts to butyrate in the large intestine as does butter etc. Pseed powder has zero calories. I think RS beans also create butyrate but again they are not zero-cal like Pseed powder.
When flaring transit time is too fast for the RS beans to ferment but Pseed powder seems to still be somewhat effective.
Sticking to the program with the intent to avoid a flare, I am driving an hour each way for another 3 months so my experimentation ends here.
The other recent change is I finally found a non-whey protein powder - Reward that has no junk sweeteners in it so it does not taste like candy. Slower digesting my body loves it and it has extra Leucine to utilize the other amino's. First time ever that my bloodwork came back and did not show albumin ( protein ) below the range. I attribute that to better absorption from the carnitine with pseed powder and the slower digesting pea protein in Reward.
