Just a few months myself. This site gives good to know info and also probably not so good. Talk to your doctor, take your MEDS and research to help cope. Many here that have had it for years. Its very individual.

Some have been living with uc for 25, 30 years or more without issue. Don't worry, Uc doesn't shorten lifespans, or outright kill people. Many live happy, successful lives despite having a uc diagnosis. In fact, my uc is currently in remission, which means I live perfectly normal without any limitations or signs of uc at all.

I was dx in 2001. This forum is a fantastic community with wonderful people. The most important thing is to educate yourself and listen to your body. Each of us respond well to different meds or different combos of meds. Once your treatment works and you're feeling better, stay on your meds. My first GI was a moron and kept taking me off my meds and I would flare. I'm confident my management was not adequate and made my disease escalate. I hope you stick around...there is so much good info here.

Just wanted to reach out and wish you luck with the treatment of your disease. I was diagnosed in February and it has been a strange journey with lots of ups and downs. The only thing I can tell you is that it is perfectly normal to be scared, angry or depressed about
your diagnosis. This website is full of great resources but is also full of horror stories that may or may not reflect what you will go through. Most people I know with UC (outside this forum) only have a flare up of the disease every few years and really don't think its a big deal...but we're all different. Take your meds!
