As I said, it's impossible to stay on blood thinners while in a flare, you will bleed to death. DVTs and UC are a really bad combination for both my doctors and myself.
I have never had a problem with blood thinners like coumadin except when I was allowed to halt in half the time from 2 hour MRI/MRV of the brain which showed complete reversal of saggital sinus thrombosis or stroke. THAT is more common to UC people.
So when tapering off coumadin I mistakenly began ramping up curcumin and that got noticed and I stopped immediately. That is the only problem I ever noticed. It was amplified effect, compounding and not additive.
While on heparin drip in the ICU I concealed any UC blood because you need the the blood thinner to stop the 2nd and the 3rd clot. That strategy paid off and I was always amazed how coumadin at home never increased UC bleeding. I was on it at least one other time and I get more increased bleeding from taking too many supplements that have that characteristic.
I have even told them at the coumadin clinic to increase my dosage because I intended to eat a large bowl of spinach consistently every day to guard again worsening UC flare. They complied.
I think this is because the UC bleeding its not due to a lack of coagulants. ICU staff was clearly concerned for obvious reasons.
For me this clot business is always related to being on prednisone and never while not on it. I am very active and workout every day this has to help but I watched super active neighbor kayaking biking get nailed with DVT.
