Starting prednisone

I've been using Canasa for the last month and the bleeding has continued. The GI's nurse called me today and told me to stop the Canasa and that she was calling me in a prednisone taper for 20 days to start tomorrow. I'm really dreading it. I've taken it in the past due to my back problems, and even though it does work well I hate the side effects. Also - is it weird that she told me to stop the Canasa?
I have a follow up appt with the GI on the 9th.
As a reminder I was diagnosed with moderate active chronic non specific colitis last month based on biopsy results from a colonoscopy.

Do you know what parts if your colon are effected? Canasa only reaches the very bottom of your GI tract. Your UC is probably more involved than just that area and that's why it wasn't working well. You probably should have been taking oral mesalamine to reach the higher areas, mesalamine enemas to reach the middle area, and the Canasa to reach the lower area. While prednisone isn't a bad idea because it is systemic and will reach all areas, prednisone only works while you take it and not when you taper off and you cannot take it long term. You need to be taking mtnc meds along with it like oral mesalamines, enemas, and Canasa which keep you in remission once the prednisone is tapered down and off.

Geez - after taking it this morning I got d and it seems like my body aches have gotten worse. Is that normal?

The d has stopped but the body aches are still terrible - lower back is the worst. Related to just the colitis or could the pred make it worse?

Ugh - well then I guess I can be hopeful that it will improve if the pred kicks the inflammation down?
