Surgery update - feeling great!

I finally had my surgery. The final decision was a colon resection with diverting loop iliostomy to let my resection fully heal because it was so inflamed. They are pretty sure at this point it is Crohns but will know for sure when the pathology comes back.

I just wanted to let some folks know that might be on the surgical fence that it was so much better than I imagined!!! As soon as I woke up my body felt better not having that disease in there. Minus the soreness from surgery my body feels so calm and happy!

I will have my loop for 3 months. Although it is such a relief not pooping I'm not sure I am going to be as excited for take down. Only been a week with the bag but is way easier than I thought it would be and if one day it needed to be permanent I could handle it.

I fought surgery forever but I know now it was the right thing for me and it is amazing in just one weeks time how much better and pain free I feel!!! Here is hoping for a long resection remission!!!!

Glad to hear your doing well. Are they doing anything to prevent diverting colitis?

And the surgery went well.
If you do have CD not UC than simponi might not be the best biologic for you as it tends to be better for UC
I don't know what other biologics you have tried but remicade and humira both work for cd and uc
Entyvio tends to work better for uc as well.

I have already been on Remicade (8 yrs), Humira (4 yrs), and Entyvio didn't work. We actually think Simponi is working well which added to the UC/Crohns puzzle. When I started it in June I had inflammation all the way down the left side to the rectum and my rectum was inflamed. On the Sigmoid I did presurgery to help decide what surgery to do everything from my bad spot down had healed. My GI said the last 30 cm and my rectum were completely healed, no sign of disease.

It will be interesting to see what pathology says as my disease has always acted more like UC until this bad spot where they can't tell what happened and said UC wouldn't do that but possible Crohns could.

My surgical experience was similar to yours, I woke up and I was sore but finally felt healthy again. I wasn't in much pain at all and was back to work in about 10 days after being released from the hospital.

My GI told me before I went in for surgery that I'd wake up from the surgery and feel like the monster was gone from my body, it was exactly like that.

I'm happy that you are feeling healthy again. The bag wasn't an issue for me either since I felt so much better I didn't care.
