Hi all -
I am gearing up for a colonoscopy on Thursday. Although he generally doesn't use it any more, my GI has permitted me to do the Miralax prep.

I have gone two years since I was last scoped! So I am curious as to what others have used for preps, that they have found more tolerable.

The gallon preps, no flavouring.

never tried another except the fleet oral...bad experience.

Mirilax is the same ingredient as the gallon prep. ...how do you use it?

I've used the Miralax prep my last few. My GI said it doesn't clean you out quite as good but it works. You mix it with Gatorade and it really doesn't have a bad taste at all. It's two separate doses of 32oz of gatorate mixed with the miralax per the instructions. It's still hard to get all the liquid down in the time required (for me) but at least it's not gag inducing as far as taste

Movieprep is the only one for me
It's 2 bottles I think a liter
I never have to Finnish the second bottle as I get cleaned out quick
The trick is to drink it cold and use a straw turn

I have heard that the Miralax doesn't clean quite as well but my GI says that I do well with it. I've done the 2 gallon, the 1 gallon, and the Fleets phospha soda over the years. Of these I prefer the Miralax... but I am still hoping for something better!

Q, I am instructed to have only clear liquids on Prep Day. I am to mix a 238 g container of Miralax into 64 oz of anything clear: Gatorade, Fruit2o... I am using a peach-flavored water mix. (Mix the grams into the ounces... funny that they put it that way on the instructions :-) At 5 pm, take 2 Dulcolax tablets. At 6, start drinking the prep and drink it all, a glass every 15-30 minutes. When finished, take 2 more Dulcolax.

I am impressed with your "no flavor" mix; does the prep mixture have any taste, or is it flavorless like the Miralax? In general my preferred beverage is water rather than juice or soda or flavored waters. I wonder if I could just mix this into water?
And then after I am supposed to drink as much as I can until 4 hours prior to the procedure. Obviously I will drink a lot all day; that will make the whole thing more comfortable. I report to the endoscopy center at 8 am Thursday.

You have got to try www.prepopik.com. By far the easiest. it's like 2 nasty cups of stuff followed by a bunch of water. Piece of cake for me.

I've used Moviprep (hated it) and Suprep (wasn't bad at all). Both cleaned me out fairly quickly. The Suprep was much less of the mixed liquid and more of just plain water.

I've used fleet oral (disgusting and harsh), half-lytely (much better than fleet but way too much to drink - I can never finish without gagging), magnesium citrate (awful) and suprep (by far the easiest of them all). The suprep doesn't taste bad and there is very little to drink of the actual prep. Only downside is that it is one of those split dose preps.

I like the dulcolax + Golitely prep. Whatever prep you do, it goes a lot easier if you stick to a liquid diet the day before the procedure.

I've found that once everything coming out is pale yellow and clear, I can stop the prep. This usually means I skip the last two 8 oz. cups which is a big help. Even though I never finish the prep 100%, my GI has always says my prep is excellent.

songlady....I use Golytely which has no flavouring added. Colyte is flavoured. Maybe you could mix it in filtered water?

Nice to hear from you, Songlady-- though sorry you have to prep! Last c-scope I used Miralax + 64 oz clear liquid; gastro wrote in my report that "the quality of the prep was good"! Try to start swallowing by 2-3 PM so that you can do all the running to throne room before bedtime. No fun to be kept awake by that overnight. I've only ever used golytely, but I thought it was ok. Surely didn't make me gag or anything. It's not flavoured, just drank it really cold, tastes like salty water maybe? It didn't cause any weird side effects and I will use it again for sure. I'm a firm believer in the philosophy "better the devil you know than the one you don't"

I used Miralax. I mixed half of it with water and then the other half with a Crystal-lite type stuff. What can I say? It worked.

Old Hat - nice to hear from you also! I wish I had been able to start sooner. There was a mixup and my work day didn't end until nearly 6 pm.... so indeed I think I got up 6 times during the night. Next time I will start the prep earlier!
