Serositis

Anyone suffer from this?

Winter is coming and I'm starting to feel pain in my chest area. My pulmonary doctor who diagnosed me said it was related to UC. I used to have an asthma spray for this and he wanted me on 40 mg pred but I refused. The chest pain is dull but constant. I can breath normally but it makes me feel very sick.

I think this is one of the rare "side effects" of our disease and I feel very alone with this. Not that I wish this on anyone. I live in Salt Lake City and we have what they call an inversion. Meaning that the bad air and pollution is being trapped in the valley which is surrounded by the mountains while the cold air is pushing it down so the pollution can't escape. The air is really dirty and sometimes it's so bad that I cannot see the mountains. I know that a lot of people here develop asthma.

Hi Andrina, sorry to hear about one more thing for you to be concerned about.
How was this diagnosed in you? Observation of tissue? Biopsy?

PS I live in west coast Florida and our air has red tide (off-shore algae toxin) as well as heavy pollen right now. My husband has had a cough for 3 weeks and today I have massive headache and dry eyes. Nothing compared to yours though.

OK, that does not sound totally nailing your DX, at least to me.

I've been around the block a bit with doctors trying to figure symptoms out (other than UC). I had very bad breathing problems over 10 years ago and went to a lung guy who put me in a chamber to measure my breathing. Put me on inhaler, nothing much improved. Several months later my PCP doc discover I was massively anemic which meant I had very little oxygen in my very scarce blood. 2 pints later I could breathe and also had energy to get through life.

Not disagreeing with your doctor but this was not the only time doctors have been wrong about what was causing symptoms for me, again not UC for me. I am aware that inflammation can cause many physical issues and am on the lookout. I hope your chest pain turns out to be not serious. Heart conditions in women are greatly under diagnosed and under-treated.
