My day by day Cleveland/surgery updates

I would doubt that the remicade is causing the joint pain because you just got the pain and your infusion was like 6 weeks ago. If anything the remicade has been helping the joint pain and maybe it's wearing off now. Esp. Cuz it's getting worse progressively.

Did rheumatology come see you?

i usually can't walk because of joint pain, weakness, and water retention during my severe flares. prednisone absolutely kills me. i usually use a walker or wheelchair when i am this bad off. i've never had a surgeon "turn me down" or "delay" surgery due to my inability to walk. i've been immobile during most of my hospital stays and they were ready to schedule surgery whenever i wanted. they always had me on blood thinners because i was a vegetable.

Surgery went well, my joint pain and muscle pain pretty much deminished right after the surgery which blew my mind. My heart rate lowered and my blood pressure got better. All my vitals looked better directly after the surgery. I have had a couple different urgencies where I had to run to the bathroom and some liquidy poop came out. I heard that this is normal although to me it doesn't make much sense that I'm still pooping with urgencies, hopefully that fades quickly because the urgencies was one of the biggest colitis symptoms. My incisions hurt but other than that there's not much pain elsewhere, I feel healthier and overall just better now that the disease is gone. This is step 1 of 3 surgeries and I'm sure I'll adjust just fine. Yesterday was liquid diet, I'm hoping to move to soft food diet soon, I have an appetite which is good though. Day 2 after my surgery and I handled soft foods pretty well. My heart rate is still high actually, about 130 at rest and they're trying to figure out why and how to lower it. I have the typical post pains from the surgery from the incisions and what not, can't do much movement on my own. I've been having about 3 urgencies a day to get rid of some liquid poop and blood, the same urgency that came with my UC. I guess this is normal and should go away soon. I had two blood transfusions since being here, one before surgery and one after, my hemoglobin has been up and down since being here and right now it's 7.6. I think that the doctors are just making sure that that number goes up and stays up as well as getting my heart rate controlled and the they'll probably discharge me. The surgery and digesting part of things seem to be going in the right direction.

Glad the food is being tolerated well how are you dealing with your stoma? Are they still doing that for you?

They are still emptying that for me because I can't really move and do much myself, plus they wanna measure and check consistency of the bowel. It's a little disturbing the whole bag aspect of things but right now with the staples and incisions it's more of a ware zone area, once they heal it'll be an easier area to work with and easier to tolerate the bag. My bag is also see through right now for the nurses and doctors to see, so that doesn't really help with the visual side of things. All in all everything is going smooth, sore, but smooth. I'm happy the surgery is over with and I can say that I'm UC or disease free. I'm in great hands here at Cleveland clinic, everyone stays on top of everything and communicates well with each other. Hoping the following days I can continue forward progression with no set backs.
