suffering from colitis symptoms??

long story short I suppose, ive had problems with my stomach for the past 8 weeks, suffered a bout of diarria after returning from egypt, cleared up after a few weeks, I went to the doctors and they passed it off as gastroenteritus, my stomach has churned ever since, especially after eating, about two weeks ago I had another attack like I did after my return from egypt, but since then ive been passing bloody mucus with my bowl movements, the first of the day being quite a lot then easing up as each bowl through out the day. i feel fine apart from the constant churning of my stomach after eating. I attended the doctors on monday, he examed me and I gave blood and stool samples. Im driving myself nuts thinking about it. My mother had colon cancer last year, sorry for the long post, just wanted to feel like ive shared it with someone.

Blood and stool tests are the first step. Depending on your results you may then be referred to a GI for further testing such as a colonoscopy.
