During my visit to India on vacation in October 2015, I caught an infection. The GI in India told it is normal infection and was prescribed antibiotics for a week and Prednisolon suppository.
That didn't help me and then the GI thought it is a flare up, so I was given prednisolon systemically with prednisolon suppository. That help, the stool became solid but there were bleeding. The solid stool slowly turned semi solid and watery as I tappered the prednisolon tablets. I completed the prednisolon tablets course on 10th of Nov.
After reaching Amsterdam, I had a regular checkup with my GI on 16th of Nov. Stool Culture test was done and was identified that I have Shigella infection. The GI gave me antibiotics (Co-trimoxazol forte 960mg).
I started the antibiotics course on 2nd Dec - 2 times a day and is for a week.
I have very very little formed stools and bloody diarrhea. Have been holding my nerves for almost a month now and I'm unable to withstand the pain.
I'm also taking Pentasa granules 4gm also using Prednisolon suppository.
Any advice how to deal with this? Should I insist my GI to refer me for another stool culture test upon the completion of the antibiotics? This is because I read in some articles that some shigella becomes resistant to antibiotics?
