HI there. Mine was also high (6x normal) when I was in a very, very bad flare. Went on nicotine patches, put me in remission in like 2 days, and after 6 months on patches this dropped to normal. Also, in general, Proteobacteria were 5x normal, and also has strong association with UC, and after nicotine, dropped from 15% to 0.11%. To say the least, significant! How did I feel? great! what did my colonoscopy show? NO BLEEDING! My GI was stunned. I eat everything. I did nicotine patches for 1 year and then stopped and am still doing well almost 1 yr later. Soon plan to do uBiome test again.
Note: never a smoker, but heavy 2nd hand smoke, developed UC in early 30s. My theory is that 2nd hand smokers who do not smoke have a higher chance of developing UC than others. One study has shown that women who quit smoking are 5x more likely to develop UC.
Good luck. I thoroughly endorse using microbiome assays as a diagnostic tool. I am convinced that these bacteria are at least partly if not mostly the cause of my own illness, in addition to my immune system's response to this group of bacteria.
