Need suggestions...What put you in remission?

I am totally mystified but grateful to be in remission. In fact I gave up nearly all of my supplements except D and fish oil because I was so tired of popping pills. Stopped the goat milk kefir. As poop improved started back to vegan heavy on the beans (every day beans), resistant starch. I do eat 1/4 cup sauerkraut or other fermented food a day. I just withdrew constant attention to my colon and bingo perfect poops. I don't even look anymore. It's only been about a month. fingers crossed. It took 11 months of varying degrees of misery and hundreds of dollars in supplements, B injections, etc.

I will keep my fingers crossed for you, zengrrl!! I think there is something magical about beans and resistant starch.

I, unfortunately, was put on azathioprine quite early in my disease, like one of the first medications I was put on besides enemas. In hindsight, I think that wasn't a very good idea because I've been on it more than 10 years, probably more like a dozen, and I worry about that. I doubt I could go off of it without dire consequences.

Fortunately -- I do feel EXTREMELY fortunate when I read what so many endure here -- since on azathioprine, I've only had a handful of flares, and only one was pretty bad.

I'm also on asacol, which my new GI (not the one who put me in the Imuran) put me on four or five years ago for it's antiinflammatory effects.

I understand your worry and I'm gLad it turned out OK with you. But I believe that patients who have GIs who start off with prescribing the stronger meds should seriously consider getting a 2nd opinion from another doctor.

I would agree with you. Unfortunately, at the time, I didn't know any better and just accepted her recommendation.
