I had terrible issues with UCLA, their billing and just the general organization over there. I wouldn't opt to go there in the future. I did however like my GI. On the other hand, I had surgery and never heard a peep from her again, not even an email to say hi or ask how I was doing. I get that people are busy, but come on, years with a GI and then no, "how how are you?" Seems insensitive. Just my opinion.
NSSG,
You should be going to the GI every 12-18 months for a screening/scope. There is a debate about
how closely j-pouch patients should be monitored for cancer; my surgeon insisted on once a year but my GI said that since I had my colon removed for UC and not cancer that I didn't have to be followed as closely.
I guess that I was fortunate that my GI would come to my hospital room almost everyday to check on me and chat after my surgeries. Believe me there was no way that my insurance company was paying him and my surgeon at the same time for my care; he would just check on me because that was the type of doctor that he is.
