maroon means reddish, so it's possible. Unless you're eating beets or red or orange coloured foods. Foods, fats, etc and if mixed with mucus, it would definitely change the colour.
I've never had a sig-scope, are you doing some kind of clean-out such as fleet enema before you have it?
The doc will probably give you a mild pain medication and something to relax you. It will be uncomfortable possibly going around the sigmoid bend. It's the air that's put into the colon that causes most of the discomfort....and if you're spasming. The meds should help.
I'm always awake for my colonoscopy to watch the monitor. It makes the whole process...well...amazing to see what's going on in there.
Do request that the doc take biopsies to make sure nothing's going on at a microscopic level.
Let us know how it went for you.
It's certainly not the worst experience regarding testing...but the first one was scary until my doc gave me a scope (27 years ago) to watch what was happening as well. Woohoo!
hang tough....it's better to know than not,.
