Recently diagnosed with Ulcerative Proctitis

I was diagnosed with UP back in October. I was placed on Canasa and hydrocort. When I first started taking the medication I was fine, but then right before Thanksgiving I began to have the urgency to go a lot but nothing was really coming out except blood and mucus. I went back to the doctor and he gave me a new script for the hydrocort because it had run out and told me that when I was finished with that to start taking the canasa twice a day. I feel worse since I have been on the medication, is this because I am in a flare? I didn't really ever have a flare before being diagnosed just blood and mucus, but no pain or urgency. Does this ever get better? I am very frustrated how long do these flares last? I'm supposed to run a half marathon tomorrow but with how frequently I need to use the restroom in the morning I am not sure if I'll be able to do it. Any advice for a new person with this would be greatly appreciated.

Yes, it's a flare up of your UP symptoms. How long will it last? That's the million dollar question. Flares can last days, weeks, months, or sometimes even years. If you treat them with the right medications then they can be short. Just be aggressive in treating it, and it shouldn't be bad. Good luck!
