I am a 19 year old female and am scheduled to have my colonoscopy on Wednesday next week. For the past 6 weeks i have had diarrhea and random bouts of mucous in my stool. I feel very sick (nausea) almost every day and i think that this is probably the worst symptom for me. I also get soo super tired. I only have ever had one time where there was blood after passing a bowel movement. I get the occassional cramping and am ALWAYS bloated. I notice that when i bloat one side is a lot larger than the other side. When i go to pass a stool it is always a different size/shape. One day it will be largeish and the next it will be a very skinny stool. Or a straight normal looking stool to a short and curly stool.

My question is....my Gastro doctor thinks it may be UC but i have really had no blood which is why i think it may not be that. I just want to know what ya'll think? I know thats whay the colonoscopy is for but i really just wanted some more info from people who have experienced this first hand.

Has anyone taken picosalax as their bowel prep and what your experiences is with it. Im absolutley terrified and have been told i will be sedated with propofol. Anyone who has had this sedation please share your experience with it.

Ok. Glad you are getting a scope. You can have UC with or without bloody BMs.
I have not done that prep I used a different one.
I would advise you to go on a low residue diet until the scope. Meaning not eating seeds, hulls, corn, peels, and high fiber foods. ( avoiding things you would see indijested in your stool)

Will make the prep easier.

My first scope I was sedated with propofol and it was great!! I didn't feel/ see/ hear a blessed thing. When I woke up I was alert and oriented within a very short time.

I had a scope today and they didn't use propofol I was not sedated properly. It was terrible I was in a lot of pain. So good that you are going with propofol !! You will do just fine.

Hi Briar. I had the same prep before my first colonoscopy in October last year. I have to say that was the worst part for me. I got through drinking it(yucky) and spent a good few hours on the toilet. It works is all I can say.

The colonoscopy was a real walk in the park as I don't remember anything but felt great when I woke up. They gave me the best sandwich I have ever tasted afterwards, probably wasn't the best but hey it sure felt/tasted like it at the time.

Good luck with the colonoscopy and don't stress, you'll be in good hands :)

its a good drug; you wake up quicker with less fog later in the day.

May I ask why you weren't sedated properly? What the heck, why did they do that to you?

It was a different doctor and hospital.

He didn't know I was in pain cuz I didn't tell him. I got a very light sedation but I was up. I'm still not sure why I was kind of mumbling to them but was having trouble getting the words out that I was in pain. It was kind of cool to see my colon on the screens. But next time I will insist on getting propofol. Not taking chances

Sadly I'm the same, I won't speak up to the doctors I see. I'm so sorry you had to go through that. I guess if there's a silver lining at least you know for sure that you will need to be fully sedated the next time! And hey, good for you, I think you should be proud that you made it through that.
