Darkened skin spot

Hello everyone!
There is a spot on my cheek that has been darkening for the past 6-12 months. It looks sort of between a birth mark and some dirt on my face haha... I read Asacol can cause some skin changes - has anyone else experienced this? It's noticeable enough that some people have commented on it, asking if it's a bruise or something. I'm a pale white color so it's pretty distinctive :(

Sure it's not just a sun spot? Not sure how old you are, but I've been getting those since my early 30s. It's usually called Melasma and some people are more prone to it than others. I have some fancy, expensive cream (that insurance doesn't cover) that fades mine. Unless I go out in the sun again and my sunscreen wears off, then it just comes right back.

Any spots that darken are caused by a hormone (such as pregnancy and hormone medications such as contraceptives, steroid medication use) and by the sun.

We all have darker spots on our skin normally, and the sun will find them and darken them nicely. If it's on the left side of your face, that's possibly the side that's exposed the most from driving.

You will have it forever....

I have one of those right above my left eyebrow. I asked my dermatologist about it and she said "you won't like my answer, it is a sun spot from aging." I laughed because I was very worried about cancer. Melanoma runs in my family and she knows that in very worried about it. I am very fair with tons of freckles and red to dark blonde hair. I have all the red head skin issues and need for more pain mess than the average person. Lucky me...

I am very fair and have stayed out of the sun most of my life. Before taking pred, I did not have a single sun spot or even a freckle. After pred....not the case. I got this very ugly sun spot that was tiny but still annoyed the heck out of me. It appeared almost overnight after a month of pred. All very odd.

Anyway....so being vain, I had IPL photo facial done. It is relatively inexpensive and you can find deals on Groupon. It got rid of the problem. no more sun spot.
