According to Dr. Kevin Rioux a researcher for IBD who did a study on the the inheritance and and genetics of IBD, if one parent (either mom or dad) has an IBD there is a 40-60% increased risk their offspring will also develop and IBD (either UC or CD) I've never heard anything at all about women with an IBD being able to pass the gene off easier than a man with IBD and it's likely because that isn't warranted to date. Bottom line, as long as one parent has it the risk for their offspring is the same, 40 to 60% chance of developing either CD or UC.
Is it an overall 40-60% chance or an INCREASE of 40-60%?
It's a 40 to 60% increased risk, I guess because they figure that anyone really is at risk for developing an IBD since still not enough is known about
IBD yet....sadly! But an IBDer that has offspring, increase the risk to that offspring to 40 to 60% chance higher risk of also developing either form of IBD.
