Kidney stone and UTI....not great timing.

I am supposed to have a sigmoidoscopy today and I have a raging UTI and passed 3 baby kidney stones a few days ago. (the AZO test strips showed a clear infection.) I called my doctors office over an hour ago but can't get in touch with anyone. I think it might be because of the snow storm we got here.

I have never had a sigmoidoscopy but I am wondering if I can take pain killers (tramadol) before the procedure? I am guessing anything that thins the blood is out but opiods are not supposed to do that, right? Sorry for the question that clearly should go to my GI but I am in so much pain right now. I am staring at that bottle right now and absolutely desperate to take something for the pain.

I think some of the twilight drugs used in scoping are opiod based

Hi thanks for asking. I actually decided to take the tramadol and have someone drive me. Those flex sigs are easy when you are high.

I was a bit disappointed in the results. I thought for sure my GI was going to say - wow, looks great and then use the R word. But nope, he said I still have "moderate active colitis." Not even sure what that means but we are supposed to talk after he gets the biopsy results in a couple of weeks.

I am just really surprised because I thought I was doing great and my inflammation markers are all down. (sigh) And so the fight goes...
