Well, I have been on cloud 9 since starting Imuran about 1 year ago. Last week I started feeling bloated, then painful. I got worse over the course of a few day and ended up in the ER Saturday. C diff. Never had it before, don't know where I picked it up. My god it's painful!! I was admitted overnight, discharged in Flagyl and flora-q, still taking my Imuran and Lialda. I have a follow up with my GI Doc tomorrow. I tried to return to work on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday but left at noon Wednesday. This is horrific stuff!! How depressing...😒

UC does seem to be at risk for C.Diff even more than CD patients.

New research suggests that UC patients have less Immunoglobulin-A to protect against C.Diff toxins, and also do not produce as Immunoglobulin-G in reaction after a C.Diff infection.

The good news is that it might be possible to vaccinate UC patients against C.Diff by boosting IgA and IgG.

Host Immune Response to Clostridium difficile Infection in Inflammatory Bowel Disease Patients

Conclusions: Patients with UC have lower IgA levels to C. difficile toxins compared with those with Crohn's disease and those after IPAA. Patients with IBD with prior CDI failed to demonstrate any increase in antitoxin IgG. Our findings suggest that IBD patients may benefit from immunization strategies targeting C. difficile toxins.
