Chrissy, make sure you always hold the skin tight even if it starts to hurt, my nurse directed me to do this to avoid hitting any arteries or something that shouldn't be hit by the needle.
Most of the time mine will sting, even though I always make sure to let it get to room temperature (no more then half an hour and that's in the winter lol). When it doesn't hurt I'm always worried the needle didn't release like it was suppose to but when I see the tiny little mark left behind (sometimes it'll bleed and sometimes not) then I know the needle penetrated. Ice the area before your alcohol rub it and always make sure you let the alcohol dry before you inject as that may contribute to stinging/pain from the shot.
