This is somewhat off-topic but I thought I'd post it here as the kidney forum is so small.
All good with my UC. Remission now for over 2.5 years on Imuran. In the last 4 months I've developed an irritated bladder. My ONLY issue is urgency but considering I was the type of person who could easily hold 6-8 hours then when suddenly holding for 2 hours became an issue I guess I felt there was something up with my body. I've had tests for inflammation, infection, diabetes, prostate during this period - even repeated. All are normal. My doctor suggested overactive bladder and prescribed a bladder relaxant. It worked ok but I decided to give it up and try a natural solution. Now things have definitely improved. I am back to 2-4 hours but I still have a little too many bladder spasms during this period - too much urgency for quantity I'm peeing!!
The mystery lies in the fact that over this period I've taken an NSAID 3 times for a running injury. I know NSAID not good for UC but like I said my colon is in complete remission. Every time I take an NSAID my bladder returns to complete normality - no spasms, no urgency, holding for 6-8 hours no problem. I'm real curious as to why my bladder is responding to NSAIDs. I have googled online and the consensus seems to be NSAIDs can irritate a bladder in the same way as they irritate a stomach or colon. Yet it does seem to be the case that a single NSAID completely restores the bladder to normality for the day. Now I've heard that NSAIDs block certain hormones in the brain so open to the fact that my bladder issues could be anxiety related and that the NSAIDs could be helping reduce this anxiety. Again to stress I have no bladder pain or any issues other than urgency. I'm male 38.
Appreciate any advice. Cheers
