On Uceris but want to switch back to Prednisone

So I am having a flare up that started after I was given Magnesium Citrate to clean me out because I wasn't able to go to the bathroom. I wanted to just get on prednisone for a few weeks to help calm everything down but the doctor put me on Uceris. I have taken Uceris a few years ago and it did nothing for me. I have been on Uceris for 8 days now and feel no different. How long does it typically take to see some type of change with the Uceris? Also, I have a lot of Prednisone left in my medicine cabinet.....I'm thinking about taking myself off of Uceris and starting Prednisone. I should be able to go from Uceris to Prednisone without any problems, right? I appreciate any feedback I can get on this subject.

I'd give any steroid a couple weeks before saying it doesn't work.

I'd call your gastroenterologist as you'll need a prescription/script (some on hand usually isn't enough) and I'd ask for a tapering schedule. It's tempting sometimes to go solo, but important to communicate these things.

so is that your only current symptom, constipation ? how long has that been going on ? are you doing anything non-med to try and get some relief ?

My symptoms now are blood and diarrhea with some severe stomach pain off and on throughout the day. The Uceris has not helped any of that so far. The constipation is now gone (for now). Now I am just concerned with stopping the bleeding and diarrhea.

Just started today. Not the post I wanted to read. My doc also won't put me back on prednisone because of the side effects. Day 1, and I'm hoping it gets this flare under control. Please keep us posted with your results. I'm very curious.

i did not notice any next day or 2 kind of uceris response, but i was much better after a few weeks.

Uceris worked great for my mild inflammation. When it progressed to moderate/severe, Uceris didn't really do anything too beneficial. I guess it kept me somewhat stable, which was good, but my symptoms were still quite debilitating.

Uceris did not work for my husband.

After trying Remicade and Humira, he started flaring while we were on vacation. I had brought prednisone along "just in case." Started on the 40 mg, which is always what he started on, then checked with the doctor who agreed. We have been very fortunate with our GI who was flexible in terms of exploring various options, dosages, etc of various drugs and let us feel like we were ultimately in control. If the Uceris is not working, then you may need to get back on Prednisone while you figure out next steps to avoid being in a bad flare. I agree that open communication and advocating for yourself is important.
