... is that deffo hemmies? Seems to me like if it was Crohn's it would happen way more often once than every few weeks.

It's a rather recent thing for me. Only started happening since my last surgery.

Not what you might want to hear but I was pretty random at times with blood - once a week'ish to every few weeks and occasionally daily at my worst. Bright red and a small amount (for the most part) but sometimes there was a lot.

It would just come and go at random. Was strange and didn't really correlate to anything. I didn't have any haemorrhoids.

Aside from the occasionally daily bit, what you've described sounds exactly like me. I've also just remembered that I passed blood a few hours after inserting a mesalazine suppository. That happened twice. Wasn't prepared to try a third suppository after that.

I'm not actually sure if I have any hemmies or not. Presume a flex sig would pick them up, so next time I see my surgeon I'll ask her if the flex sig showed any.

PS: Had some fresh blood tonight, which is what prompted this question. Think I'm beginning to feel the effects of tapering from 9mg Entocort to 6mg, but I'm worried about my bones/teeth and don't really want to increase again. Hurry up and kick in, 6MP... rolleyes

It could be rectal inflammation from your Crohn's. External hemorrhoids you would know about, as they extend outside the body. Internal hemorrhoids are only a few inches inside. A General practitioner doctor could find them with a white glove and a finger.

Are you having CRP or Faecal calprotectin monitoring done to monitor your body inflammation? I'm wondering if there's been a jump in inflammation levels within your body during the steroid taper.

I had a faecal calprotectin test done a couple of weeks ago. The IBD nurse decided to order one when I complained about still having symptoms. Unfortunately I was on 9mg Entocort at the time and so I don't think it will show very much. As for CRP that's tested at the beginning of my routine blood monitoring, but for some bizarre reason they have dispensed with measuring CRP and ESR after that (I have the blood test forms so I can see what's been ordered and what hasn't). So again, my CRP measurement probably won't show anything very much.

My hospital doesn't seem to go in for measuring CRP on a regular basis at all, something I find baffling when my CRP definitely rises and falls in response to inflammation. I'm sure if I asked them they would tell me it's not a standard test or something, I dunno.

Have you discussed antibiotics instead of upping your dose of steroids? Hopefully you only need some additional meds for a few weeks until the 6-mp fully kicks in.

ks, nah I haven't.

Have wondered whether antibiotics would work for me, but also a bit wary of the potential side-effects. I'm not drastically worse off, so I think I'll stay on 6mg Entocort for a few more weeks before tapering down to 3mg - by that time 6MP should be very close to kicking in.
