my GI just called with results of CT E yesterday and there is some small bowel inflammation
He wants to do another test involving drinking bowel prep and barium
Who knew you could get both terrors in one.

Ileum backwash does happen with uc patients. If it's much more than that then you might have Crohn's...

No fun on the prep plus barium...

Or an infection/Bacteria overgrowth, I personally think that a lot more IBD patients have SIBO than are ever tested for it.

The easiest prep that I've ever done is Mylax. I don't know if you can do it for this exam but it works pretty well for me.

Never heard of mylax
I have done moviprep which I will never do again
I did miralax and was ok
The actuall prep causes much discomfort tho
The barium is gonna be gross...

Dikid - what was going on that prompted you to get a CT scan? Something with your UC?

I was having bleeding and some abdominal pain for awhile and having more BMs than I should have been having so GI ordered it to rule out small bowel inflammation.
He is ordering an X-ray thing that take bowel prep.
Fast, and take barium and they scan as the barium moves through the bowel. At the end they inflate the illeum with some air (through the rectum -yay)

He isn't convinced it CD becuse it looked good by my last c-scope in January

I had that barium test (small bowel series) to rule out CD. It's always yucky drinking that stuff but the test isn't that bad. It took a long time though. I was there for 3 hours. Good luck....hopefully your dx hasn't changed.

Is it the MRE? That's the one i had where the prep made me have to poop and I had to pay in a tube for nearly an hour. it was a tough day.

Nope not MRE
It's called a small bowel follow through
Do a bowel prep standard clear liquids and pipe cleaner (miralax for me) and than the next day drink barium and they take X-rays as it goes through small bowel
So a scan every 15 or so
At the end they blow up illeum with gas (through rectum)
I heard from someone who did it that it's terrible tasting and makes you poop

Yup. The barium makes you have to poop and it's thick and warm. It takes terrible, but you will get through it, if I did, you will too!

Thanks, when the nurse calls to schedule I'm going to beg for sown thing else.
It's not fair to do bowel prep and barium (and don't get sedation)
I'll be popping and vomiting at the same time. Exactly what I have always wanted.

I am going to try to get out of the SBFT, it scares me and I dont know if its necessary esp cuz of the radiation and gross preps

Update: the GI nurse called today and I asked her my questions (GI is out of town, I told her not to bother him and I would be glad to wait until next week)
I asked if I would be able to get a second opinion

Why wouldn't you be able to get a 2nd opinion from a GI? Even if they are at the same practice.

You can, just the doctor has to arrange it.
The doc I want to see has a very full schedule so it's difficult to get an appointment.
Hopefully my GI will be willing to get me in

No permission needed. All you need to do is fillout a request at your current gastroenterologist for a copy of your patient case history file. Bring that to a doctor of your choice, keep them yourself or whatever. Of course, as you said, getting that appointment with another specialist is difficult. Some don't accept new patients, others make you wait many months, etc...

For this practice, you need to doc to arrange when the switch is within the practice.
The doc I want to see (David Rubin) is very hard to get an appointment with.
I'm hoping he will have one before next year
