Tumor necrosis factor (TNF) alpha is an immunomodulatory cytokine that has been implicated in certain inflammatory diseases, including multiple sclerosis (MS), rheumatoid arthritis (RA), and Crohn disease...
Anti-TNF therapy for RA has been associated with monophasic CNS demyelination and worsening of known MS...
The incidence of MS onset associated with anti-TNF therapy is rare but may be underreported because of insufficient follow-up in most cases.
I don't understand why a GI would advise against Remicade but then suggest Humira since both are anti-TNF drugs. Better safe than sorry. There are other possible therapies, both mainstream and alternative, besides biologics.
