This happens to me when inflammation in the rectum is strong. Inflammation seems to inhibit pooping. The best thing for it is using mesalamine retention enemas. These are not the kind of enema that encourages a bowel movement, the mesalamine calms the rectal inflammation overnight and makes passing stool so much easier. Works like a charm.
The other thing that helps me is eating a low fiber diet because fiber is just too hard on my colon, especially the rectal area. I had some oatmeal last week, seemed like a good idea. haha, wrong. No BM's for 2 days and constipation makes me feel very yucky, like I'm coming down with a virus. Mesalamine enemas put me back to normal.
You should not use Miralax long term, will screw up your normal bowel function. It's not easy to be "regular' especially when you have UC but try to prevent constipation in more natural ways.
