Best oral mesalazine for distal colitis

Hello everyone.

I would just like other peoples experiences or opinions on which is the best oral preparation for distal colitis.

I have the option to change back to Lialda from salofalk granules which I have been trying since February. I am not sure if they are working as I am still seeing blood etc. I am on my third course of steroids since October and now have to stay at 20mg when I have tapered from 40mg. I have changed mesalazine twice before to Pentasa and colazide but went back to Lialda when my symptoms got worse on them. Even though my symptoms aren't as bad as the were on Penasa and colozide I don't feel that I am improving on salofalk.

Please let me know your thoughts.

If Lialda worked for you before that's what I would do. I had been on Asacol HD and switched to Apriso and started having problems. I switched back to Asacol and the problems went away until I started seeing a lot of intact pills in my stool and flared again. I just switched to Lialda to give that a try before moving up to stronger meds.

Some say that there's no difference in the mesalimine meds, but since they all have different release point in the colon and different ingredients they react differently in people. The mesalamine itself is the same -- it's everything else in those pills that is different.

Rectal mesalamine is the best med for distal UC in conjunction with oral to deal with above.

If Lialda is good for you then stick with it. What rectal are you on?
