I have to get a dreaded colonoscopy next week, and need to choose a prep. I am NOT good at drinking the preps - my gag reflex is terrible and I barf. The last colonoscopy I had I took Osmoprep pills, which was much better since I didn't have to drink nasty liquid - only water. I wish I could do that again, however, it seems the osmoprep is black listed and more dangerous to the kidneys than the other preps. My doctor will prescribe it if I want, but I don't want to take that chance. So, it is between the Suprep and the Prepopik. What are your experiences with either - good or bad. And does anyone know if one is more dangerous than the other? Thank you in Advance.

Miralax can be mixed with various liquids - cold & hot- and it's not a slimy texture. I never gag or vomit as I have done with other preps.
Good luck!

I had good luck with two bottles of magnesium citrate and 2 liters if Gatorade. I drank one bottle and then the second 8 hours later. It took a good 2.5 hours for anything to happen, but it worked well and was only 12 oz at a time.

I do mirilax and Gatorade split prep with dulcolax. My hospital moved away from that prep but allows patients to do it upon request. I don't mind it at all since mirilax is tasteless. I don't like Gatorade much but orange is ok especially through a straw. I swear by a straw for any prep. Bypass the tastebuds!

I also prefer miralax/dulcolax. No taste and no nausea. The only time I was nauseated was during a mini-flare but otherwise this is the prep I do. I've gotten to the point where I don't even ask because I won't do the other preps. I switched GI docs about
a year and a half ago and was so relieved when I found out he uses this prep.

I've done the same prep as Kulinarykidz. Gatorade masks the taste some, but not all.
No prep is super easy, they all pretty much suck, sorry no easy passes available... Drink what you can and hope that you're mostly passing clear liquids by the time of your scope.
Do any of us truly drink all the prep anyways? I think I just drank 2/3 of it, roughly speaking, and I was fine.
Good luck. Make sure to let us know how your scope results turn out.

The miralax/dulcolax prep made me throw up. I told you I liked the prepopik.

Yeah the Prepopik sounds good, but my GI was hesitant because he said it doesn't clean out as well :( I also heard it takes a long time to work and you are cramping the whole time...did you have that experience?

I am never as cleaned out as they would like it seems. With the miralax/dulcalax, i couldn't finish it because it made me very sick, so I wasn't cleaned out. Same with golytely, it was salty and gross and after a while I couldn't tolerate drinking it so I didn't finish. The prepopik, for me, wasn't tough. I didn't cramp and it worked pretty quickly. Miralax worked really slowly for me. I guess it's pretty individual. Are you just having a routine scope? I hope it's easy for you and that everything looks great. What day is it? I have heard suprep is great but I didn't try it myself. I wish i Had known about
the prepopik a long time ago. Not sure why I struggled through all those awful preps when this one was SO easy.

I found my easiest prep was miralax (moviprep and magnesium citrate were very difficult)
I would advise starting much earlier than the doc says cuz it can take longer to work.
Also, if you drink more clears the day of prep it helps the prep work better.
You can request zofran to take.
Also, if you drink strained chicken soup consommé between prep sips it is easier to get it down.
Good luck!

The only thing that I used was Prepopik and it wasn't bad at all. I like how you don't have to drink as much. And it actually kicked in pretty fast for me. I got the cranberry flavor and put some ice in it.
And I never got any cramps.
Good luck!

Good luck tomorrow "Kate"
Which prep did you end up going for? Are you tolerating it well? Almost finished I hope... Is it early at least? I hate when the scope it later in the day and you're staving until that time.
