A flare is a consistent worsening of your uc symptoms. Blood isn't necessarily part of the definition. Flares come in really small sizes, intermediate sizes, and giant sizes. You might have a small blip, something you can overcome within a few weeks by increasing the frequency of your in-inventory enemas or suppositories. Most flares involve seeing your gastroenterologist and adjusting your medications and sometimes adding prednisone. Really bad flares can land you in a hospital from dehydration, pain, and/or anemia.
It sounds like a blip to me. I'd still contact your gastroenterologist and let him/her know about your change in symptoms. This recently happened to me, my doctor did a flexible-sigmoidoscopy and found mild inflammation. He prescribed nightly rowasa enemas and 20 mgs of prednisone. He ordered a bunch of tests, crp, several stool pathogen tests. We'll see how it works and what the test results say and treat accordingly. It's best to catch a flare early, when you're fortunate enough to. Sometimes there's little warning and we're just SOL and flaring with little warning.
