I wrote on a different thread about my (stubborn) proctitis that didn't respond to any treatment. So my doc told me about how some people with proctitis have found arsenic to be helpful.

This is why I, a 19 year old female, now have decided to try this weird (but hopefully helpful) medication. If you wanna join me on my journey I'll try to write here every day to see if any progress has taken place!

Day 1: Took the first supp last night. I've as of now (9 pm) had 2 BMS whereas the first was bloody but not the second, this is actually the first time in almost a month that I have a blood free BM!! I won't get my hopes up tho, but a girl's gotta dream, right? I've had some cramping whilst being on the toilet and my head has been aching a bit (side effect or because I wore my glasses a bit longer than usual?)

Did you have them compounded? are they RX? Sounds dangerous to me. I've never heard of such a thing.

I just did a search and I found some interesting information.

Arsenic? Heck i'd drink it at this point. I just shoved nitroglycerin up my ass to stop me from screaming with this abscess.

Hope it works for you. Keep us updated.

and please don't dream about pooping pro - there are much better places to go when you're not awake smilewinkgrin

Hi girl. I tried to understand your questions by using my dear friend Google.. I'll blame the fact that I live in Sweden because I have no idea what RX and compounded means when it comes to medication?

I've tried researching about it but just like you I've only found old stuff..

you are really brave! If i were to try something with arsenic, i'd surely get a heart attack first, especially that i once saw an old film 'arsenic and old lace' :)

Compounded means you go to a special pharmacy and they make them for you. You still need a prescription, (Rx). Sorry to confuse you.

From what I saw, it seems like you're not the first person to try this, and there is some information out there, though not very current, perhaps you will have luck. I hope so!!! Please let us know.

Where did you get the suppositories?

I just checked that out and I am not sure I understand how the cyclosporine enemas relate to arsenic, though I see it mentioned in that quote...

Oh ok! So I did have a prescription but I went to a normal pharmacy who ordered them for me from a special one.

Day 3: I'M STILL ALIVE yeah

The symptoms are just like day 1; 1st BM is troublesome while the 2nd (and 3rd) are well-behaved. I've also been having a headache at least once everyday, still not sure of why.. Been trying to find a list of side-effects for Acetarsol but can't seem to find any.

Yes, it's possible that the supps are causing the headache..but there are other possibilities as well if you get them often.

How long are you to take them?

Yeah maybe.. but the headache started along with the meds so I can only assume that it's due to them. I've also been feeling super tired and grumpy, hope it goes away soon..

I'm actually not sure for how long I have to take them, but my nurse will probably contact me this week or the following to check on me, but I think I'm supposed to take them for 3 or 4 weeks.

Are you eating regularly, enough carbs/protein and taking in fluids? All those can cause headaches.

Maybe if you give the nurse a call and state that one side effect, that will at least be documanted.

While it could be coincidence and yiu are getting used to the med......it's good no headaches.
