Unknown Drugs for Ulcerative Colitus

I have had UC since 1999 and at the time the "experts" at Kelsey Sebold were so hungry for money or inexperienced that they were ready to cut me open and apart. "Life with colostomy bag isn't that bad" I remember one of these A**holes telling me!

I had the sulfasalazine pills and the wonderful prednisone enemas, but nothing really worked until I went to the most unlikely of places where the budget depended on keeping me alive in an affordable manner.

I was on the pot up to 12 times per day, life was miserable and I was losing weight everyday. I went into prison weighing 155 and within 6 months I was down to 143!

I kept the faith that God had a plan for me and even though I was in the worst shape of my life physically, I just did my best to stay stress free! To keep the story short, I was sent to a trusty camp without fences or walls that also happened to be next door to a medical installation. After meeting a doctor I felt was not going to care, he gave me a shot of around 120-140 mg of cortisone. Believe it or not, the very next day, all my symptoms were gone and I was given an inside job to help keep the stress down.

Staying as stress-free as possible of course takes keeping yourself calm and taking a lot of deep breaths. I did not have a flair up for 18 months! I think I took sulfasalazine pills for a few months after that, but I slowly lowered the dose on my own.

When I did have the flair up 18 mo later, my girlfriend of 6 years (minus 2 of course) found a UC case study and that is when I was prescribed what I have found to be a little known and expensive drug that works well for me after a cortisone shot. It is called colazal the doctor generally prescribes 3 caps, 3 times per day, which I take, but as I see results, I wean myself down to 1 per meal per day until I consistently see no issues. I have tried just getting the cortisone shot, but that was a one time fix. If I only knew what that first dose was that kept it away. Anyway, good luck to you all. I hope this helps. OH, WAIT!

There was a medication that almost killed me! It was supposed to take the place of 9 caps per day in one pill. All I can tell you is that it was maroon in color and oval shaped. Be forewarned, this one pill had me bleeding and on the pot for most of the night, as if I had drank that clear sh&** that cleans your system out before a colonoscopy. I probably should have called and ambulance and thankfully, I made it through the night. It was the most horrifying experience I have ever had and I pray nobody else has to go through it.

I appreciate your response and info. I never would have thought seafood could cause an issue. I live by the Gulf of Mexico and since seafood is always available and nobody else has said no seafood, I eat it all the time. Is that just for IBS? I almost had it for lunch today. Steak and red meat is what I have been told to stay away from mostly. As for Colazal being well known, I am surprised you say this, because none of the doctors I have seen prescribed it, pharmacies never know what it is and as for the generic, it did not work for me. My insurance will not pay for previously existing conditions, so it cost me about $1300 for a month's supply when I need it. Recently I thought I had a flare up. I bought Colazal about a month ago, but I have had loose BMs since. I am starting to think I just have a stomach virus and I have an appt to see the doc on the 7th. I'm worried. Have lost at least 5 pounds and am starting to feel dizzy by the end of the day.
